Season 2008 - 2009

A hectic week of fixtures saw the Second team travel to Letchworth on Monday and win 3 - 0. The match was played over four boards. On Tuesday Hammersmith came to Potters Bar resulting in a 2 - 2 draw. On Wednesday the First team won comfortably by 4 - 1 at home to Welwyn Hatfield 1. Another season in Division 2 - well done!

A mixed week for two of our teams. On Monday the First team travelled to Stevenage and lost 4 - 1. Draws for Al and Martin. Tuesday saw the Potters Bar team triumph over at Enfield. Wins here for Chris, Steve and Mod.

The Second team defeated St Albans 6 by 3-2. Steve and Mod drew, Tomas and Terry both won.

As the season begins to draw to a close all three teams have matches left. Potter Bar have 2 home and 1 away, First team 1 home and 2 away, Second team 3 home and 1 away.

The Second team achieved a draw against Hertford 4. Subir won on 1, Mod won on to 2 (his opponent resigned rather than play on or adjudicate) and Rahul drew on 4.

The First were back on form against Watford 3 at Little Heath. The score currently stands at 3.5 - 0.5.

The Second team are lost 4.05 - 0.5 to WelwynHatfield3. Steve Dicks has the draw.

Not a very good for the teams - all lost. On Monday 12th the Second team lost 3 - 2 At Royston 4, on Tuesday Potters Bar lost 3 - 1 at home to Muswell Hill and on Wednesday the First team lost to Stevenage 1 at Little Heath (currently by 3 - 1).

The first match of the season sees the First team holding at least a draw against Royston 2. Al drew on 1 with Black, Mark Uniacke drew on 2, Mark Topham won on 3, Chris holds a strong position on 4 and Adam Joelson drew on 5. Whisper it quietly but we may just be safe in Division 2 already this season.

The Christmas Fun Tournament was held at Cunningham Hill School just before Christmas. The joint winners were Michael Chesworth and Joshua Cavendish with 4.5/5. Joshua is our Christmas champion. Thanks to everyone who took part in what is probably our last such tournament. Results here

The last match of 2008 saw a defeat for the Second team by 4 - 1 to WelwynHatfield. Subir won on board 1.

In the final match this week our Potters Bar team defeated Metropolitan 3 - 1. Wins for Adam, Michael Chesworth and Yogesh. We defaulted board 3.

The First team are well placed in their match against Watford 3. A draw is already in the bag thanks to wins for Al and Mark Uniacke and a draw for Chris. In between Martin lost on 2 and Mark Topham has a good position from his board 4 game.

At the start of another busy week. The Second team drew 2.5 - 2.5 at Hemel 3. Chris drew on 1, Steve somehow won on 2 courtesy of a blunder by his opponent and then through the clock. Mod lost on 3, Jonathan won on 4 and Terry lost on 5.

Rahul Rohatgi notched up his first win for the club at St Albans 7 but the match ended in a draw. The First team travelled to Royston and are battling to salvage a draw at 1.5 - 2.5 down. Two matches were completed against Bishop's Stortford with Al Hunter and Martin Likeman both finishing with draws. Mark Topham hold the key to the result. This week all three teams are in action again. The Second team are at Hemel 3 on Monday, the First team are at Watford 3 on Tuesday and the U125 team play at Metropolitan on Thursday.

Two matches this week (13th and 14th November) both finishing as draws. A mixed age team drew with Royston 4 on Wednesday. Terry Feldman won with Jonathan Davies, Ben Collins and Rahul Rohatgi (on his debut) scoring draws. On Thursday the U125 team drew at Muswell Hill. A win for Steve Dicks and draws for Adam Joelson and Michael Chesworth.

The First team currently trail WHCF1 by 2.5 - 1.5 with one game undecided. Mark Topham scoring one point and Martin Likeman 0.5 with Al Hunter's game to be finished.

First victory of the season for the First team by 3 - 2 over four man St Albans 2. Wins for Martin Likeman and Michael Turner over the board and for Mark Topham (default).

An indecisive fixture saw three unfinished games between the First team and Bishop's Stortford who lead 1.5 - 0.5.

First result this week (20th October) was a draw at St Albans 6. Wins for Steve and Yogesh (on his debut), draw for Mod - still unbeaten and defeats for Jonathan and John.

On a double header evening, our Potters Bar team drew 2 - 2 with Metropolitan at Billy Lows Lane. Chris lost on 1, Adam drew on 2, Steve won on 3 and Kaz drew on 4. Meanwhile the Second team were at Hertford. Mod continued his fine start to the season with a win on board one to take the only point. Three matches next week with all of our teams in action.

The third match of the season was a three board home encounter against Letchworth 4. Mod continued his fine start to the season with a draw on board 3, Jakob Yianni found a clever way to win a drawn position on board 2 and Subir Rohatgi won comfortably on board 1.

The second match of the season took us to Willesden where we achieved a 2 -2 draw. Chris drew on 1, Adam drew on 2, Steve lost on 3 and Mod won on 4.

The first match of the season saw the U125 team trek down to West Kensington to play Hammersmith. The result was a 2.5 - 1.5 victory. Draws for Chris, Adam and Mod on boards 1,2 and 4 with Steve winning on 3.

It quickly became apparent that we were not going to be able to field three teams in the Herts League to the old second team being shorn of most of the players. I decided therefore that we would play the second team in division 7 and continue in the Middlesex U125. This offered the best opportunity for all standards of player to represent the club.
